The old Wokcano Space at 1413 5th St. in Downtown Santa Monica has sat empty for quite a while. But the commodious location is about to get a new tenant. An ABC application lists the new business as Nic’s. I don’t have any information on this business, so if you know more, pass it along…
Update: Readers are letting me know that this is actually a seafood restaurant named Oasis.
Last night I made a reservation at Margo’s using their website, and got
a confirmation email.
When my niece got there, she reported that the place was closed, windows
covered with paper.
So we went someplace else.
Today I got an email asking how my reservation went.
So it looks like the place is alive on the internet, but out-of-business
in the real world.
Do you have any information about this?

Nic’s is great. Long time restauanteur. The location in BH was quite a scene. Music, dancing, great food The owner is a terrific guy. An experienced restaurant guy.
There’s a sign up now. it’s called oasis.
Are people going to come to that part of Santa Monica to dine and ultimately sustain a restaurant business in that particular space? We’ll see. I remember it when it was Abiquiu, circa 1996. Fun place, different times.
