On a tip from a reader (Thanks SG!) I went by cavernous Argentinean steakhouse Malbec to see what was going on. The signs have been pulled down and their location at 2628 Wilshire Blvd. has been gutted. The for lease sign in the window confirms that they have indeed permanently closed. It appears that their other locations are still open.
Hardly cavernous, but it’s not small either. I thought the food was pretty solidly good the 3 times I went there. Too bad bcz there aren’t many places to eat Argentinian food in Greater L.A.. The only other one I can think of is Carlito’s Gardel on Melrose if that’s still in business, plus Gaucho Grill chain is out of business I think except one location. Chimichurri forever.
I never actually tried Malbec. But I still remember that space when it was a Drago. It seemed big to me then. Thanks for reading! -TRA
