More Details About Terratorry On Montana…

Since I first told you about the new eatery Terratorry that’s moving into the old Art’s Table space at 1002 Montana in Santa Monica, people have been clamoring for more information. A sharp-eyed reader (Thanks Debra!) spotted a note on the front of the build-out giving us some clues. The note explains that the Midwestern chef’s “ethos revolves around our local Farmers’ Markets” with a focus on heritage cooking using the best of the West Coast, and, well, you can read the entire statement below….

What’s Going On At Art’s Table, M&D Margos Kitchen In Santa Monica?

Big changes coming to Santa Monica’s tony Montana Ave… Art’s Table, at 1002 Montana, abruptly closed recently and construction has begun on a new venture. An ABC application went up this week announcing the new eatery as Terra Torry. And Art’s sister restaurant M&D Margos Kitchen at 1534 Montana recently went dark with papered over windows. Hastily scrawled notes on the windows declare that they are “closed for remodel by owner”. Yelp is listing them as closed. I’ll keep watching to see what develops.

Ox & Son To Take Over Cafe Montana In SM…

You may have been wondering what was going on over at neighborhood fave Cafe Montana at 1534 Montana Ave. in Santa Monica. Recently, they closed down.  Then a sign went up in the window that announced they were remodeling and promising to reopen soon.  That sign quickly disappeared.  Then came the black plastic covering the windows…  According to a source, Cafe Montana will not be reopening, ending a 20 year long run.  The space is being developed for a new venture, tentatively named Ox & Son by businessman, restaurateur, and owner of Westside Rentals Mark Verge, who recently opened Art’s Table in Cafe Montana’s sister restaurant, the now-defunct Babalu.  No details on an opening date or menu, but I’m told the concept will be “high-end”.

Art’s Table Replaces Babalu In Santa Monica

There has been a lot of confusion over much-beloved neighborhood haunt Babalu on the corner of 10th and Montana Ave. in Santa Monica.  Indeed, Carmen Miranda’s smiling face has been gazing down on traffic from their sign for 27 years.  Locals have been wildly speculating about recent odd hours and closures, but now it’s final:  Babalu is officially closed.  After a quick redo to replace tropical kitch with a cool industrial vibe, a new venture, Art’s Table has moved in and is now open.  Brought to you by businessman, restaurateur, and owner of Westside Rentals Mark Verge, his latest offers a menu of burgers, salads, and sandwiches in a cozy neutral setting.  Read Babalu’s parting message here.
