Layla Bagels & Coffee Coming To Brentwood

Apparently, I only gave you half the story when I reported to you that Sora Temaki Bar was taking over the Contempo Floor Covering store at 908 S Barrington Ave. in Brentwood. They are moving into the space, but only part of it. Window paper has since gone up indicating that the spacious address is being divided with Sora moving into the right side, and Layla Bagels & Coffee taking over the rest of the space. Crazy-popular Layla has two other locations (Santa Monica and Beverly Hills) and specializes in “hand-rolled sourdough bagels baked fresh daily”, bringing yet another bold bagel choice to carb-saturated Brentwood.

Sora Bringing Hand Rolls To Brentwood Soon

Brentwood is white-hot for new restaurants. I spied a new ABC application on the front of the Contempo Floor Covering store at 908 S Barrington Ave. in Brentwood. It names the new ‘general’ eating place as Sora. A little more digging reveals that this will be the future home of a branch of Sora Temaki Bar. Sora has a location in The Grove, and one on the way in Thousand Oaks, and offers a wide menu of temaki that “brings together innovation and heritage in every hand-rolled bite”.

Casa De Campo Closed, Being Replaced By For The Win In Brentwood

Sad news from Brentwood. A sharp-eyed reader (Thanks Nicole!) wrote to tell me that the neighborhood’s fave go-to for “Cali-Mex cuisine”, Casa de Campo, has closed up shop at 147 S Barrington Ave. Not sure what happened, but I’ll keep my eye on the space to see what may develop.

Update: It appears this location will soon be another location of beloved burger chain For The Win. (Thanks Corie!)

What’s Going On At The Old Brentwood Restaurant & Lounge Space?

Brentwood Village is having a moment…  There’s a new ABC application on the front door of 148 S Barrington Ave. in Brentwood Village, previously home to beloved local hotspot Brentwood Restaurant & Lounge and ill-fated Baja Norte.  The space is completely gutted, and there’s not much information on the new eatery.  But if you examine the ABC application, a familiar name is listed: Dana Slatkin.  Dana Slatkin is none other than one of the people behind Westwood’s French culinary powerhouse Violet.  The business name on the application is listed as “Glenbarr”, but what I’m hearing is that the new business’ name will be The Wilkes.  (I do not have confirmation for this.)  Rumor has it this will be a return to the loungey superclub feel of the old Brentwood Restaurant & Lounge.  You’ve got my attention…

All Roads Nearly Open In Brentwood Village

When I originally posted about a new Italian venture with Toscana alum on board, at 145 S Barrington Ave. in Brentwood Village, the name on the ABC application listed the new eatery as Nuvola.  Since then, signs have gone up on the space announcing the name as All Roads.  The new “Roman inspired eatery and wine bar” will be open every day from 11AM to 10PM.  It looks like they’re close to opening.  Until then, check out their menu of pinsa and salads here.

(Thanks Susan!)

Evan Steakhouse And Bar Coming To Brentwood

It was back in December of last year that I noticed that Maradentro would not be returning to the space at 1168 S Barrington Ave. in Brentwood.  A new eatery appears to be moving into the prominent corner location.  A sign on the corner is letting us know that Evan Steakhouse and Grill is coming soon.  There’s not much out there yet, just a still-developing website.  Let me know if you have any information.
