Le Petit Chez Mimi Bringing French Charm Back To Santa Monica

After being peppered with questions from curious readers who noticed activity at the erstwhile location of local bolthole Le Petit Café at 2842 Colorado Ave., I went by to have a look.  Sure enough, a brand new awning declares the new restaurant to be Le Petit Chez Mimi.  Fortunately, I was able to have a chat with the delightful proprietor, Micheline Hébert (nicknamed Mimi), the beloved and irrepressible force behind the Chez Mimi empire.  (Chez Mimi closed at 26th and San Vicente almost 10 years ago.)  She explained that she is excited by this new project:  They have retained the chef from Le Petit Café and the menu will be similar as well… as in, thoroughly French.  Think sole meunière, truite amandine, and boeuf bourguignon.  They are planning on a March opening.  In the mean time, check out the photo Ms. Hébert provided to get a glimpse inside this new French charmer.

Update:  Le Petit Chez Mimi is now open.  Read more here.

  1. I know the owner of Le Petit Cafe (est.1994) and some people think that this is an extension of his business. It is NOT in case anyone was wondering. Robert has no association whatsoever with Chez Mimi.

  2. Hi! I am a long time fan and customer of Mimi’s. We have followed her from her first restaurant in Venice to the one in Santa Monica and the restaurant’s in-between, we celebrated many important holidays and special events in our lives there with friends that loved Mimi’s as well.. We moved out of Calif. in 2002. However, I’m back and after reading this article am very excited to know that she may open another restaurant. I would love to be kept up-to-date on the happenings of the restaurant and, of course, know when the opening will be, if it is possible. I’m also looking forward to seeing Mimi!
Thank you for any information you can provide, Candy Kano

    • Hi!
So excited, live in neighborhood and was a fan of her old place.
I can’t find how to contact and make a reservation. Can you give me some guidance.
      Thank you!

  3. Had dinner there a few nights ago. Setting is terrific with plenty of room on the patio. Same delicious food and excellent service. So glad she is back in a new location.

  4. Yay!! So happy to hear the great news! Can’t wait to dine at what was our favorite restaurant. I’ve also been following Mimi since my teaching days at Westminster Elementary School across the street from Mimi’s first restaurant!… See you soon, Mimi!!
