Parakeet Cafe Coming To Brentwood

San Diego’s Parakeet Cafe continues its push into LA County.  Last year, I told you about the health-focused chain taking over the old Chin Chin space in Beverly Hills.  Recently, window paper went up at 13050 San Vicente Blvd. suite 112, most recently home to a mysterious branch of Umami Burger ghost kitchen, announcing that a new branch of Parakeet Cafe is settling in at this address as well.  Check out another location’s menu here to get an idea of what may be coming…

Umami Burger Coming To Brentwood As Well…

The C3 Restaurant Platform is having a moment…  It was only last week when I told you about the arrival of Umami Burger to Venice.  Now it seems Brentwood is getting lucky as well.  Umami Burger is currently moving into the old Le Pain Quotidien space at 13050 San Vicente Blvd Ste 114 (corner of 26th), consequently the same shopping center that is the home to the new swanky bento box restaurant Imari.  A company spokesperson contacted me to let me know that this location, as well as the new Venice location, will also host a ghost kitchen for Sam’s Crispy Chicken, Krispy Rice, Kumi.

New York’s Via Quadronno Coming To Santa Monica

[Breaking News]  I have it on good authority that New York’s famed Via Quadronno is opening a West Coast outpost in the old Chez Mimi space at 246 26th St. (across from Brentwood Country Mart).  And from what I’m hearing, the space, already charming, will be upgraded by well-known architect firm Marmol RadzinerVia Quadronno is the Upper East Side’s purveyor of  “unforgettable cappuccinos and paninis” (as well as a full dining menu) that is a fave with celebrities and has appeared in such shows as Sex and the City and Gossip Girl.  This is a developing story, but way too delicious and exciting not to pass on…

Le Petit Chez Mimi Bringing French Charm Back To Santa Monica

After being peppered with questions from curious readers who noticed activity at the erstwhile location of local bolthole Le Petit Café at 2842 Colorado Ave., I went by to have a look.  Sure enough, a brand new awning declares the new restaurant to be Le Petit Chez Mimi.  Fortunately, I was able to have a chat with the delightful proprietor, Micheline Hébert (nicknamed Mimi), the beloved and irrepressible force behind the Chez Mimi empire.  (Chez Mimi closed at 26th and San Vicente almost 10 years ago.)  She explained that she is excited by this new project:  They have retained the chef from Le Petit Café and the menu will be similar as well… as in, thoroughly French.  Think sole meunière, truite amandine, and boeuf bourguignon.  They are planning on a March opening.  In the mean time, check out the photo Ms. Hébert provided to get a glimpse inside this new French charmer.

Update:  Le Petit Chez Mimi is now open.  Read more here.

Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine Summits Santa Monica/Brentwood

Ever since we learned that longstanding healthy Mexican purveyor Kayndaves had abandoned their location at 262 26th St., across from the increasingly tony Brentwood Country Mart, I’ve been wondering who would even undertake such an upscale market.  The corner of San Vicente and 26th has proven itself a challenging location as evidenced by the revolving door of restaurants that has attempted the space that most recently held L’Ami.  (The latest gasp of hope, the ABC app that I reported on back in January has since been taken down and I think we’re back to square one.)  But now, one brave contender is giving the Kayndaves space a go…  A banner is up informing us that it will soon be the home of Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine.  With three other locations scattered across the Southland offering Nepali, Tibetan, and Indian food, we wish them the best of  luck.
