Kitchen United Mix Adding A Second Location In Santa Monica

When NY-style coal-fired pizza joint Grimaldi’s closed in El Segundo, it was reported that they were moving to a Santa Monica takeaway operation in the office complex at 2501 Colorado.  What wasn’t reported was that the new location will be inside yet another outpost of rapidly expanding ghost kitchen/food hall Kitchen United Mix, making this Santa Monica’s second branch.  Currently at address there is an erstwhile Daily Grill and, more suitably, a cafeteria called Colorado Kitchen.  Both Santa Monica locations of Kitchen United were shooting for an October opening, but as it stands, little work has been done at either.  Nearby Westwood is also getting a branch as well.

Le Petit Chez Mimi Opens In Santa Monica…

Ever since I first told you about the impending arrival of the latest incarnation of beloved French restaurant Chez Mimi back in February, thousands of you have been checking for updates and demanding answers.  Here you go:  Le Petit Chez Mimi opened a delightful outdoor dining room on Friday (10/07/2020)).  Le Petit Chez Mimi is helmed by local legend Chef Mimi.  Read more about her newest eatery in my original piece here.  De rien

Update:  While I don’t normally endorse restaurants, I’ve been overwhelmed with requests for contact information…  Le Petit Chez Mimi’s website is now up and running.  Check it out here.  Or call (310) 264-4464 to make a reservation.  Encore de rien

Le Petit Chez Mimi Bringing French Charm Back To Santa Monica

After being peppered with questions from curious readers who noticed activity at the erstwhile location of local bolthole Le Petit Café at 2842 Colorado Ave., I went by to have a look.  Sure enough, a brand new awning declares the new restaurant to be Le Petit Chez Mimi.  Fortunately, I was able to have a chat with the delightful proprietor, Micheline Hébert (nicknamed Mimi), the beloved and irrepressible force behind the Chez Mimi empire.  (Chez Mimi closed at 26th and San Vicente almost 10 years ago.)  She explained that she is excited by this new project:  They have retained the chef from Le Petit Café and the menu will be similar as well… as in, thoroughly French.  Think sole meunière, truite amandine, and boeuf bourguignon.  They are planning on a March opening.  In the mean time, check out the photo Ms. Hébert provided to get a glimpse inside this new French charmer.

Update:  Le Petit Chez Mimi is now open.  Read more here.

Pure Food Bringing Organic, Plant-Based Falafels To Santa Monica

I’ve been watching the space that used to house the little diner Tulip Cafe at 1314 Colorado Ave. in a desolate industrial part of Santa Monica.  It’s been idle for a while, then a notice appeared maybe a year or two ago that an experimental new eatery was moving in.  Then that notice disappeared.  Now a plucky new restaurant is going to give the quirky location a try.  A banner over the door announces that Pure Food will soon inhabit the diminutive space.  You can read the menu here, but it looks like falafels are the star of the show, as well as other Mediterranean specialties.
