Ippudo Bringing Celebrated Ramen To Culver City

With its much-lauded tonkotsu ramen that once caused a sensation in New York, award-winning Ippudo has been slowly making inroads into the West Coast.  A sharp-eyed reader noticed that they are moving into the space at 3847 Main St. in Downtown Culver City.  Founded in 1985 in Fukuoka City, Japan, they opened their first US location in 2008 in New York and have since spread to locations in Bay Area and West Hollywood.  This will be the second LA location for the exacting noodle chain (although there was briefly a Santa Monica outpost).

Dan Modern Chinese Replacing Ippudo In Santa Monica

A few years ago when it opened, Ippudo caused quite a stir with its tonkotsu ramen that was a huge hit in New York.  But things have changed.  Ippudo is no more.  And what’s next for the space at 1403 2nd St.?  Why none other than expanding dumpling and noodle chain Dan Modern Chinese.  According to their website, they’ll also be opening in Playa Vista and Manhatten Beach soon as well. Ippudo Restaurant Bringing Famous Ramen To Santa Monica?

I noticed a few weeks ago that something was moving into the vacant space that used to house erstwhile tapas joint Taberna Arros Y Vi at 1403 2nd St. in Downtown Santa Monica.  A recently posted development application lists the new tenant as Ippudo Restaurant. I can’t confirm it, but could this be an upcoming branch of the famous cult tonkotsu ramen chain from New York, that is also moving into the Bay Area?  I guess we’ll have to wait and see what develops…
