Flower Child Uprooted In Downtown Santa Monica

I’m hearing from many of you who are really not that surprised that Santa Monica’s branch of Fox Restaurant ConceptsFlower Child appears caput at 1332 Second Street in Downtown Santa Monica.  You may recall, Flower Child started spreading their good vibes back in 2016 with a sunny menu aimed at the health conscious.  I’m not sure what may have gone wrong, but I’ll keep my eye on the space to see what will develop.

KC Chocolatier Closes In Downtown Santa Monica

It was back in 2017 when I told you about the exciting arrival of KC Chocolatier to Downtown Santa Monica.  Impressive chocolates, ice cream, and hot chocolate flown in from Belgium put KC squarely on the map for chocolate lovers.  Sadly, fan adoration didn’t appear to be enough.  KC Chocolatier appears to have closed up shop at 1431B 2nd St.  All is not lost though… You can still order online

Jinky’s Coffee Coming To Downtown Santa Monica

It looks like popular breakfast/lunch spot Jinky’s Cafe is expanding into the world of coffee and grab-and-go.  You may recall that The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on the corner of Second St. and Santa Monica Blvd. disappeared in last year’s mass extinction event that saw so many closures for the beloved SoCal chain.  Now there’s a banner on the location, at 200 Santa Monica Blvd., announcing a new java joint: Jinky’s Coffee.  We are promised a chai and coffee bar, bakery, sandwiches, wraps, and “empanads and samosas”.

Dan Modern Chinese Replacing Ippudo In Santa Monica

A few years ago when it opened, Ippudo caused quite a stir with its tonkotsu ramen that was a huge hit in New York.  But things have changed.  Ippudo is no more.  And what’s next for the space at 1403 2nd St.?  Why none other than expanding dumpling and noodle chain Dan Modern Chinese.  According to their website, they’ll also be opening in Playa Vista and Manhatten Beach soon as well. Even More CBTL Losses!

Yikes!  Ever since I first started telling you about the mass extinction of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf from the Westside, I’ve been hearing from horrified fans mourning the loss of even more neighborhood CBTLs.  The Coffee Bean on the corner of Second and Santa Monica Blvd. is now gone.  The CBTL on the corner of Wilshire and Federal has disappeared.  And, while I haven’t checked it out personally, readers are telling me that The Coffee Bean on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester is now caput.  Lots of you have been sending me theories on why this is happening, but if you have definite information, please let us know…CBTL1.jpgCBTL2
