Pop’s Bagels Opens On Montana Ave.

Well, they really pulled a rabbit out of a hat… After two years, ambitious B&T’s Deli abruptly closed up shop on April 30 at 912 Montana Ave. in Santa Monica. By some miracle, cult-fave carb purveyor Pop’s Bagels has not only managed to move in but are planning to open today (Friday, May 15). Pop’s Bagels has four other LA locations and is well-known for long lines and bagels described as “fluffy, crispy, and perfectly chewy”. With equally culty H& H Bagels just a block away, and Sam’s Bagels a little over a block in the opposite direction, Montana Ave is turning into something of a carb capital.

Hank’s Bagels Bringing Carbs Back To Brentwood

Everyone’s favorite breakfast staple, the humble bagel, appears to be having a resurgence after a dark period of carb avoidance. There are lines out the door at the hip outpost of New York’s H&H Bagels, also Layla Bagels, Pop’s Bagels, Sam’s Bagels, and others. Now a new contender is throwing its hat into the ring. A sharp-eyed reader (Thanks Blair!) noticed window decals up on the space that used to be the home of Yu Cake, at 11725 Barrington Ct in Brentwood, announcing the arrival of a branch of Hank’s Bagels. Hank’s Bagels has locations in Burbank and Sherman Oaks and offers a menu of a variety of handmade bagels, spreads, and sandwiches that you can read more about here.

H&H Bagels Bringing Famous NYC Bagels To Montana Ave.

Ever since Marmalade Cafe closed up shop at its longtime location of 710 Montana Ave. in Santa Monica, readers have been demanding answers as to what would take over the space.  Construction began quickly and the speculation was wild.  I’d been hearing whispers of the incoming tenant, but now we have proof.  New York’s celebrated H&H Bagels is taking up residence at this location, as confirmed by their website H&H began in New York in 1972 and uses the “artisanal water bagel method” that produces results for which fans go crazy and many consider to be the quintessential bagel.  They are in the midst of a national expansion, and this will be their first West Coast store.
