Fōnuts Bringing Enlightened Treats To Montana Ave.

As I’ve been telling you, sleek Montana Ave in Santa Monca is becoming quite a food destination.  New eateries are popping up all over the stylish street.  Le Cafe de la Plage recently opened.  Van Lueewen and Oakberry are on the way.  Now it looks like the space right next to Oakberry will soon be home to a new bakery.  Window paper is up on 709 Montana announcing the arrival of Fōnuts.  The self-described “enlightened donut” purveyor has a location on West 3rd and a location in Studio City and offers a menu with a variety of healthy baked options that are gluten-free and vegan.

Santa Monica is about to get its second branch of international acai experts Oakberry (the first location is on the corner of Berkeley and Wilshire).  There’s window paper across two storefronts at 705 and 707 Montana Ave announcing the news.  Oakberry offers acai that is 100% natural with no food coloring, artificial preservatives, or guarana syrup.  They operate a number of locations in Brazil and continue an impressive international expansion.

Katsu Bar Bringing Curry & Sandos To Santa Monica

The former bank building at 3032 Wilshire, on the corner of Berkeley and Wilshire in Santa Monica, continues its transformation into a food destination.  There are the delightful Portuguese egg tarts from Paderia at the back of the building, and in the front, you can get your acai at Oakberry.  Soon you can add one more choice.  Signs recently went up on Suite B4, on the Berkeley side of the building, announcing a new “curry & sando” spot: Katsu BarKatsu Bar has a smattering of locations throughout SoCal and offers a menu of appetizers, salads, chicken or pork katsu sandwiches and sandos, and curry bowls.

The local collapse of German pudding concept Pudu Pudu left some gaping holes in prominent locations in the Southland, including the location at 1432 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice.  But that’s about to change.  Wasting no time, window paper has quickly put up announcing that a branch of acai expert Oakberry is setting up housekeeping at this address.  Oakberry prides itself on bowls and smoothies based on acai that is 100% natural with no food coloring, artificial preservatives, or guarana syrup.  They hail from Brazil and claim to have “more than 500 units” across the world.
