Obikà’s Salute To Lazio Dinner, May 22nd
Obikà in Century City continues to explore the various regional cooking of Italy with a specially-themed dinner on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00pm. This month, they will be highlighting the flavorful vegetables and pasta of the region of Lazio with a 4 or 5 course menu. Native Food Cafe Now Open In Westwood; New Menu Items
Native Foods Cafe is celebrating the re-opening of its Westwood branch, now open right next door to the old one at 1114 Gayley, with new menu items. Look for such seasonal treats as: grilled California caesar, Bangkok curry bowl, Maryland tempe cakes, roasted chile taco trio, and strawberry shortcake parfait. Veggie Grill’s New Menu Items
Veggie Grill has recently added a number of new items to their standard all-vegan menu. Included on the list are a selection of “homestyle dinners” that consist of a main and two sides such as the gluten-free Urban Plate: blackened tempe, carmelized onion, and portobello mushroom stack with chipotle ranch, steamin’ kale and tomato salad. There are new sandwiches as well like the Buffalo Bomber (crispy chickin’ with buffalo sauce, ranch, tomato, and red onion) and the Crab Cake (“crab” cake with spiced tartar sauce, pickles, tomato lettuce, red onion). Susan Feniger’s Street, at 742 N. Highland, has rolled out a brand spankin’ new menu filled with Asian street food treats. With a strong emphasis on vegetarian and vegan dishes, you’ll see new items such as: JAPANESE MUSTARD SPINACH (komatsuna greens, spiced tofu, toasted rice broth), DATE + KAMUT FRITTERS (yogurt sauce, rose petals, almonds), and WARM HALLOUMI CHEESE (grilled treviso, citrus, honey thyme vinaigrette). Upper West’s “Old School Eats” Wine Dinner Tonight
Upper West is hosting a special dinner tonight (Thursday, March 29th) at 7:00pm in association with San Antonio Winery. The are calling the promotion Old School Eats because the selections are reminiscent of the Mad Men era. Included on the menu are potato-leek vichyssoise, waldorf salad, and apple brown betty, all paired with San Antonio wines presented by wine maker Arnaud Debons. Cost is $55. Native Foods Celebrates Superbowl With The Cubano Sandwich, Opens Next Week In Newport Beach
Ok, this sounds way to good to pass up, but in celebration of the Superbowl, that oddly is next weekend, Native Foods Cafe is offering a special this weekend only (Jan. 27th-29th): the Cubano sandwich, that is described as a “traditional Cuban sandwich stacked with slow roasted cilantro-garlic seitan and smoky maple-glazed seitan, pickles, mayo, sweet mustard and a homemade swiss cheesy sauce on a grilled baguette. Served with chili con limon sweet potato fries and a sweet mango treat.” All for $9.95. My mouth is already watering…

Milo & Olive Now Open For Dinner In Santa Monica
Lurking behind a nondescript dark facade next to that curious pipe shop on Wilshire is the latest darling in the burgeoning mini-empire of Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan (Rustic Canyon, Huckleberry, Sweet Rose Creamery). Milo & Olive, their intimate, modern bakeshop and pizzeria began opening for dinner last night (December 1). Open since November 18 for breakfast and lunch, their new lunch and dinner menu will be served from 11:00am to 11:00pm. Pizza Antica’s New Gluten Free Menu
If you follow a gluten-free diet and miss pizza terribly, you’re now in luck! Thanksgiving At Melisse, Santa Monica
For those of us who make reservations instead of cranberry sauce and pie for Thanksgiving, good news! It’s that time of year when LA restaurants roll out their holiday menus. The first to catch my attention is Josiah Citrin’s elegant Melisse in Santa Monica. His three course menu offers a variety of traditional and non-traditional choices, and at least one vegetarian option available for a main: wild mushroom, sweet onion and burrata torte with a choice of sides including praline pecan yams, szechwan green beans, fresh cranberry sauce. Dessert choices include an apple pie, a pecan pie, a chocolate souffle cake and a pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream and sauce “terre et mer” (“land and sea”… your guess is as good as mine). Halloween Cooking Demo At Native Foods, Culver City
This Sunday October 16th, Native Foods founder Chef Tanya Petrovna, (who clearly loves Halloween and will be dressed as a witch) will be leading a free cooking demo at her Native Foods Cafe in Culver City at 9:30am. Included on the menu will be chewy dirt clod bites, green goo goblin stew, and witches warts. And if that weren’t enough, all Native Foods Cafes will be offering a special Vampire Burger from October 28th through October 31st. What is a vampire burger you ask?
