There’s window paper on one of the spaces in the retail section of the massive new West Edge development at 12121 W Olympic Blvd, near the flashy new Gelson’s, announcing the arrival of Presotea. Presotea is a brand from Taiwan that boasts some very impressive numbers: over 400 stores in over 50 cities worldwide with over 3,000 employees. Look for a menu of handcrafted milk teas, fruit teas, blended drinks, and coffees.

Clean Juice has locations throughout the US, but the closest current one to LA is in Agoura Hills. They offer a menu of juices and food that is “delicious, organic, fresh, and clean”. After a sad and disastrous year, it is inspiring to watch the rebuilding of Montecito. From time to time, I like to check out what’s happening in the resilient and plucky seaside town. Recently, I noticed that a branch of Renaud’s Patisserie & Bistro is opening in the space at 1187 Coast Village Road (Suite 7). Renaud’s bills itself as “A taste of Paris without the trip to France”, and has a smattering of locations in Southern California, mostly in various Gelson’s. In addition to patisserie, and a light menu of salads, sandwiches, pasta, and quiche, the ABC application posted on the front indicates a that a beer and wine license is on the way. Glass of Sancerre with that pain bagnat? Mais oui!
Perhaps hoping to catch the overflow of people frustrated with choking crowds of Eataly, Gelson’s in Century City is making some Eataly-esque improvements. Providing more of an graze/drink/shop experience, a sign explains that they are adding a “Wolfgang Puck Build–Your-Own Pizza and Salad”, a wine and tapas bar, a seafood bar, and a poke bar. As you can see below, construction is nearly finished.
The sparkling brand new Gelson’s that took over the old Haggen (Albertson’s) space on the corner of Ocean Park and Lincoln in Santa Monica is just about to make grocery shopping a whole lot more interesting. According to signs posted in the store, they will soon be adding a wine and craft beer bar, thereby considerably increasing their chances of higher revenue due to impulse spending. No word on when the drunk shopping will commence, but believe me, I’m watching this one closely…
