Readers were sending me news of recent closures in Westwood Village, so I went by to have a look. Sure enough, after five and a half years, Tocaya Organica has decamped from their commodious location at 1140 Gayley Ave. Also recently disappeared is Pressed Juicery from their address at 10878 Kinross Ave. I’ll keep my eye on the spaces to see what may develop…
Signs are up in the window of the building on the corner of Abbot Kinney and Venice Blvd. (1645 Abbot Kinney Blvd., the same building that houses Lemonade) indicating that a branch of popular and prolific cold-pressed juice folks Pressed Juicery are soon moving in. If their window paper is to be trusted, this location will be serving their proprietary frozen treat Freeze, which they describe as “soft-serve made from 100% whole fruits, nuts & vegetables”. No word on an opening date, but I’ll keep watching…
It looks like the juice empire Pressed Juicery is continuing to expand. A branch is about to throw open its doors in the center of The Point, on the corner of Rosecrans and Sepulveda in El Segundo. They are shooting for an opening this weekend, but couldn’t absolutely guarantee it.
Could this be a sign of the times? Cast your memory back to a simpler age, when frozen yogurt was king and Pinkberry its crowned prince. Things seem to have changed somewhat. I just noticed that the branch of Pinkberry at 11711 Gorham Ave. in Brentwood has closed its doors, only to be replaced by a branch of uberhealthy Pressed Juicery. Now that’s gotta hurt…
Here’s welcome news if you’ve been tortured by the thought of having to walk more than a block for fresh juice anywhere on the Westside: The new Groundwork on the corner of 16th and Montana Ave. in Santa Monica now carries a range of cold-pressed juices from rapidly expanding Pressed Juicery.
There appears to be no end in sight to the juicing craze as evidenced by the inexorable proliferation of fresh juice shops. Add one more to the list… Pressed Juicery continues its expansion with the latest branch coming soon to 2409 Main Street in Santa Monica, nearby to Rawvolution, Yogaworks, and Urth, which makes this an extremely health-conscious stretch of SM if you don’t count the new Rita’s Frozen Custard that opened only last week.
