There’s new window paper up at 10922 Kinross Ave. (corner of Gayley) in Westwood Village announcing a new eatery. I believe this was previously the home of Headlines Diner & Grill before it moved to Westwood Blvd., but I’m not sure… correct me if I’m wrong. At any rate, this corner space will soon a new branch of the popular purveyor of salads and bowls Sweetgreen.
If you follow this blog, then you know that I’ve been carefully watching the massive redo of Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach. The extensive project will add a whole new open air addition called Village Shops, greatly expanding the retail and restaurant space. The latest restaurant news? I now have confirmation that the wildly beloved bakery Sidecar Doughnuts is opening in the Fall of 2020, and popular purveyor of salads and bowls Sweetgreen is slated for the Winter of 2020.
And while we’re on the subject of openings… Ever since I first told you about popular salad chain Sweetgreen‘s expansion to Montana Ave. in Santa Monica back in July, a great many of you have been checking for updates. So here ya go: Sweetgreen officially throws open its doors today (Friday Feb. 22) at 1517 Montana Ave. You’re welcome.
Remember back in July, when I told you about some incredible detective work sent to me by a reader, Patricia? Practically out of thin air, she had deduced that the new building that was under construction at Montana Ave. between 15th and 16th streets was soon to be home to Santa Monica’s second branch of popular salad slingers, Sweetgreen. I couldn’t get confirmation, but I passed this info along based on her confidence and the evidence she provided. Turns out, she was right. Paper is now up on the window for all to see that Sweetgreen will soon have a new location on Montana Ave.
If you follow this blog regularly, then you know how much I love to uncover stories from scraps of evidence. But I have to give credit where credit is due… I’ve been watching the new construction on the north side of Montana Ave. in Santa Monica, between 15th and 16th streets where an old parking lot used to sit, but I couldn’t uncover any concrete proposals for the site. Then I heard from reader Patricia, who had caught wind of a rumor that the space was being converted into a branch of the popular purveyor of salads and bowls, Sweetgreen, which I couldn’t verify. So Patricia went to work. On an easily overlooked document for another Montana rental, she spotted Sweetgreen listed at that location, appearing to confirm the rumor. (Don’t ask me how she found it, but it’s definitely there on page 6). So while I still can’t prove it, Sweetgreen looks likely headed for Montana Ave. The real story here is that detective work. It looks like expanding “simple, seasonal, healthy” chain Sweetgreen is bringing its community building message to the grateful people of Marina Del Rey. Plywood is up around a space in the Waterside shopping center at 4700 Admiralty announcing the good news. Not sure when they’ll open, but I’ll keep watching…
Just in time to get back on track for your New Year’s resolution… It was only back in early October that I noticed that a branch of Sweetgreen was soon to grace the corner space in the Brentwood Gardens at 11677 San Vicente. Wasting no time whatsoever, they are now dishing healthy bowls and salads to the grateful people of Brentwood.
It was only just back in August when I noticed that something was taking over the erstwhile Chang’s space at 11726 San Vicente Blvd. Wasting no time whatsoever, Simply Salad is now open and dispensing kale to the good people of Brentwood. They may get some competition from the upcoming Sweetgreen just a few blocks up the road…
I just noticed plywood covering the corner space in the Brentwood Gardens, at 11677 San Vicente, that informs us that a branch of healthy bowl expert Sweetgreen is soon heading that way. The notices only just went up, so I imagine they’ve a way to go. Until then, check out their menu here.
