Ahhh poke, will we never tire of you? Just when you think that there couldn’t possibly be room for one more raw fish shop, one pops up. It looks like the hungry students at UCLA have yet another choice when it comes to the Hawaiian specialty. The Poke is now in grand opening at their 935 Broxton Ave. location in Westwood. In addition to poke, they also feature “hot plates”, bowls, fried rice, and tempura on their menu that you can read more about here.
I’d thought that we’d begun to see a slowdown in world poke domination, but maybe not… A window notice at 8338 Lincoln Blvd. in Westchester informs us that Northridge’s Fishbowl Poke Co. is quickly setting up housekeeping. I’ll keep watching to see when they begin dishing fish.
LA continues its love affair with raw fish… Recently “molecular creamery” Ice-Cream Lab closed its chilly doors at 9461 S. Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills. And wasting no time, signs are now up to let us know that expanding Hawaiian restaurant North Shore Poke Co. will soon be moving in. It’s poke mania on the Westside! It wasn’t that long ago that I told you about the demise of Santa Monica’s short-lived branch of pie shop Simplethings, at 808 Wilshire Blvd. (corner of Lincoln). Wasting no time whatsoever, signs have gone up on the space indicating that a branch of Pasadena’s Spinfish Poke House will be rapidly moving in. Their website alludes to a new location (“We are dropping our anchor on another port!”) and encourages us to follow clues, but I think we’ve solved the mystery. The windows are papered over so I can’t assess the progress, but I’ll keep watching…
