Oro Caffe Now Bringing Coffee And European Charm To Beverly Hills

It was back in early 2016 that I first noticed that something was moving into the old Euro Caffe space at 9559 S. Santa Monica Blvd. in a notoriously risky stretch of Beverly Hills.  I don’t know why it took so long, but a charming new coffee shop, Oro Caffe, has finally opened this week.  Having the feel of a cozy salon de thé with plush banquettes and marble tables, in addition to specialty coffees and teas, Oro Caffe boasts an astonishing array of  pastries and savory lunch items that are freshly made nearby using (mostly) locally sourced and organic ingredients.  We wish them the best of luck.

Joss Bites Bringing Asian Tapas To Beverly Hills Soon…

It was a while in the making, but Joss Bites Asian Tapas, the offshoot of next door’s Joss Cuisine, is finally about ready to throw open their doors at 9923 N. Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills.  They were shooting for an opening next week, but it looks like that will be delayed.  Considering that they had originally hoped for a Fall 2017 opening, they are probably used to delays.  According to the paper on the front, the menu will contain things like; classic Peking duck, fresh oyster croquette coated with crunchy mashed taro, and tiger prawn wrap with Thai basil and spices.

Il Forno Caldo Closes In Beverly Hills

And while we’re on the subject of stunning closures…   Long time Beverly Hills traditional Italian restaurant Il Forno Caldo has quit its location at 9705 S Santa Monica Blvd.  I’m not sure what happened, and their website doesn’t give any clues, but as I’ve mentioned before, this is a notoriously fickle stretch of Beverly Hills when it comes to restaurants.

B.H. Poke Officially Gone…

I applauded last year when B.H. Poke courageously threw open their doors on a particularly tricky stretch of Beverly Hills (9527 Santa Monica Blvd. to be exact).  Then something went south…  A note was hastily affixed to the front door saying that they were taking a “little break”.  Now, after sitting idle for a few months, a large for lease sign officially confirms their demise.  I’ll watch to see what might move in.

Estiatorio Louka Taking Over The Canon Club Space In Beverly Hills

I recently noticed an ABC application pasted to the front of the space at 340 N Canon Dr. in Beverly Hills that used to house the erstwhile Canon Club.  The application lists the business name as Estiatorio Louka.  I’m not sure if this is the final name of the new restaurant or not.  There doesn’t seem to be much information out there yet, but it does seem curious that it’s only about a block away from what Eater is reporting about AVRA Estiatorio landing in the old Hakkasan space.

American Tea Room Closes All Locations…

It wasn’t that long ago that American Tea Room at 401 N. Canon Drive in Beverly Hills underwent a major renovation and triumphantly reopened.  Recently, however, I noticed a for lease sign on the space.  A letter posted on the front door explains that they have made an “incredibly tough decision to close” all three of their locations (Beverly Hills, the Arts District, Newport Beach).  They are continuing to offer teas on their website.ATR2.jpgATR1.jpg

North Shore Poke Co. Goes Belly Up In Beverly Hills

And while we’re on the subject of comings and goings in Beverly Hills, here’s more sad news.  It was only a few months ago that a hopeful North Shore Poke Co. opened for business at 9461 S. Santa Monica Blvd.  It appears that they have abandoned the notoriously tricky address.  A hastily written note attached to the front states that they have relocated to Hermosa Beach.

Oro Caffe Still On Its Way To BH

I first noticed a while ago that something called Oro Caffe was replacing longstanding Euro Caffe at 9559 S. Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills, a brave location right in the middle of a stretch that is particularly challenging for restaurants.  And then nothing happened… for almost two years!  Since many of you have been checking for updates, I have been keeping my eye on the place.  I was convinced that they had abandoned plans until recently.  Work has finally commenced and a small now hiring sign has been placed in the window confirming that they are indeed still on their way.  I’m not sure what the holdup was or when exactly they intend on opening, but rest assured that it will probably be soon.

Basanti Tea Bar Quits Beverly Hills

South Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills is a revolving door for restaurants.  Basanti Tea Bar decided to try their luck when they opened back in 2015 at 9465 S. Santa Monica Blvd.  Sadly, they have recently vacated the space.  A note taped to the front door blames “unforeseen circumstances” for their misfortune.  I’ll keep watching the spot to see who’ll be next to give it a shot.Basanti1.jpgBasanti2.jpg

Planet Smoothie Gravitates Towards Beverly Hills

Planet Smoothie has locations across the US, but relatively few outposts in LA.  The closest one to the Westside resides in Santa Monica, and opened back in 2015.  But that’s about to change.  There’s a notice in the window of the space 193 1/2 S. Beverly Dr. in Beverly Hills announcing that another Planet Smoothie is on the way.  No word of an opening date and it looks like they’ve got a way to go.

Continental Kitchen Coming To Beverly Hills

WeHo’s Continental Kitchen is expanding.  Signs are up on the space at 8300 Wilshire Blvd. (corner of San Vicente) in Beverly Hills, that used to house BrewDog Pub, announcing the impending arrival.  And it looks like they’re fairly close to opening.  Expect a large and varied menu of smoothies, salads, breakfasts, burgers, wraps, bowls, and more.

Soom Soom Fresh Mediterranean Expands Into Brentwood

With locations in Beverly Hills and LA, it looks like purveyors of healthy, organic Mediterranean food Soom Soom are living up to their website’s promise to expand “across Los Angeles and beyond”.  Paper is covering the window at 11704 South Barrington Court announcing their impending arrival.  I’m not sure how far along their progress is, but I’ll keep watching.

St. Supéry Tasting Salon Throws Open Its Doors On Rodeo

Since I first told you about the mysterious ABC application pasted to the front of the old Lladró space at 408 N. Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills, a great many of you have been checking for updates.  I can now report that Napa Valley’s St. Supéry Tasting Salon officially opened over the weekend.  Expect white and red wine tasting flights, glasses of wine, and bottles from St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery served in a “modern French parlor complimented by Napa Valley chic”.  The tasting salon will remain open until August of next year.

What’s Going On At B.H. Poke In Beverly Hills?

Recently, I noticed a hastily written note posted on the front door of fledgling B.H. Poke at 9527 Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills, situated in a block that has seen a great deal of turn over recently.  As you can see, the note states that they are “taking a little break” due to “unforeseen circumstances”.  According to a photo on Yelp, the note has been up since early last month.  It looks like no one has set foot in the shop for quite a while.  I tried to call and inquire, but their phone line no longer works.  So, I can’t confirm if they’re planning on reopening or not, but things don’t look good.

Gelato-Go Bringing “The Best Gelato In Miami” To Santa Monica, Beverly Hills

Well that didn’t take long…  It was only a couple of weeks ago that I told you about the sad disappearance of Santa Monica’s beloved gelato shop DiDio’s at 1305 Montana Ave.  Wasting no time in trying to fill the icy treat void, a new tenant is quickly moving into the spot.  A notice on the window informs us that Gelato-Go is on its way.  Billing itself as “the best gelato in Miami”, the new contender is looking to make inroads into Los Angeles.  According to the now hiring sign, they are also opening a second location at 252 S. Beverly Dr. in Beverly Hills.

Soom Soom Replaces Couscous A Gogo In Beverly Hills

Well that certainly didn’t take long…  It was only just a couple of weeks ago that I told you about the disappearance of short-lived Couscous A Gogo at 9533 S. Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills.  Wasting no time whatsoever, a branch of LA’s Soom Soom Fresh Mediterranean has taken up residence and is currently in soft opening.  Expect a menu of falafel, shawarma, kebob, and hummus plates.

Joe & The Juice Expands Into Brentwood

International lifestyle brand Joe & The Juice continues its inexorable conquest of the hip juice scene in LA.  First came news back in April that a location was landing on Melrose.  Then I noticed window paper in Beverly Hills.  And recently, yet more window paper has popped up on the corner spot of San Vicente and Montana in Brentwood, right next to Alfred Coffee at 11906 San Vicente Blvd., announcing the Danish company’s impending arrival.  When will the “hunky guys” start pouring?  We’ll have to watch and see…Joe&TheJuice.jpg

Couscous A Gogo Gone Gone?

It wasn’t that long age that I first told you about a new North African-influenced restaurant going into the space at 9533 S. Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills.  Lasting a little over a year, it sadly appears that Couscous A Gogo has vacated the location.  The awnings have been pulled down, their phone number no longer works, and the space is being gutted.  This is a tough stretch of Santa Monica Blvd:  puffy meringue people Bo Nuage recently quit their space, and remember Beverly Hills Beignet?  I’ll keep watching to see what develops.

St. Supéry Beverly Hills Details…

Since I first told you about the mysterious ABC license posted on the tony space at 408 N. Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills, a great many of you have been checking for details, so here you go…  I recently heard from a spokesperson from the Napa Valley winery listed on the application, St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery.  She informed me that the winery is opening an elegant tasting salon at this location that will showcase their white and red varietals of Bordeaux.  I’m told the space will evoke a “modern French parlor complimented by Napa Valley chic” with bistro tables, a palette of black, gold, and white, and a custom bar that will serve flights, glasses, and bottles of wine.  They’ll be running their salon through August of next year.  Look for the opening soon.  You’re welcome.

St. Supery Winery… Beverly Hills?

In oenophile news…  You could be forgiven if you didn’t expect to see an ABC license application posted to the front of one of the big flashy storefronts on tony Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills.  Yet there one is taped to the door at 408 Rodeo, a cavernous space that used to house luxury porcelain maker Lladró .  The location has sat empty for a while, but according to the application, it will soon be the SoCal home of Napa Valley’s St. Supery Winery.  The license application is a “02 Winegrower“, which means a non-retail type, so I’m not certain what’s going on here. I guess we’ll just have to keep watching…
