Tanzy Celebrates “Wife Appreciation Day”

Well first of all, I didn’t even know there was a “Wife Day”, but this is a fairly awesome deal…  Tanzy, in the iPic Theater at 10850 Wilshire in Westwood (the old Avco), may have been off your radar, but here’s a great reason to check it out.  On Sunday, September 20th, they will be celebrating “Wife Appreciation Day”.  By merely uttering the phrase “I appreciate my wife” to your server, you will receive one of the phenomenal Sherry Yard’s (Spago) raspberry soufflé free along with a complimentary glass of Prosecco.  Not sure what will happen if both of you are wives, but it could work out well…

Rawberri Set To Deliver Health To BH Soon…

I recently noticed that signs are up in the window of a tiny space at 412 N. Bedford in Beverly Hills that used to house a hair salon announcing that West Hollywood’s Rawberri will soon be bringing raw acai bowls to the land of Spago, Cut, and Mr. ChowRawberri offers a menu of superfruit bowls that are organic, dairy free, gluten-free, and soy free.  But that’s not all.  They will also be the first vendor in the US serve Australia’s CocoWhip.  What’s CocoWhip, you ask?   A vegan and bio-fermented coconut soft serve frozen yogurt that comes in flavors such as matcha slim, and cacao bliss.  No word on when this temple of Hygeia will open, but in the mean time, check out their website here.

Splichal And Puck At Melisse…

Here’s a rare and golden opportunity:  Three of LA’s most revered and legendary chefs will be coming together for one evening only, Monday September 15th.  Jaochim Splichal (Patina) and Wolfgang Puck (Spago) will be at Josiah Citrin’s Melisse in Santa Monica for a harmonic convergence of greatness to celebrate Melisse’s 15 year anniversary.  First seating is at 6:00pm and the cost for six courses is $185.  You know this is going to book up quickly so don’t just sit there, reserve your space just as fast as your little fingers can dial (310) 395-0881 or follow the links here.

Spago Opens For Lunch October 16th

The recently remodeled and svelte new Spago will commence lunch service on October 16th.  Long an LA institution, lunch on the famous patio is now guaranteed year-round with the new retractable, telescoping arched roof, controlled by a remote with which the Spago folks were kind enough to let us play, and that I tried to capture in the last, grainy photo.  In the mean time, here are a few samples of the new design details…

Ta Ta For Now, Spago…

Say what you will about Spago in Beverly Hills, but in terms of quantifiable memories, it tops my list of LA restaurants.  Spago closes for a much-needed and anticipated re-do on Sunday and won’t re-appear until mid September.  Here’s what I’ve been able to glean from friends who work there:  The beloved patio stays, but the fountain is out and will be replaced with a fireplace.  The booth in the first photo is going and in its stead will be a champagne cellar and a wine cellar.  The menu will be updated and changed as will the entire kitchen, but many of the staff will be returning.  And bye-bye salmon pizza.  We eagerly look forward to the unveiling and until then, here a few memories…
